The Honor Code - The Therefore, each student of the school is called upon to pledge that he or she will always tell the truth, always do his or her own work, not use the written work of another without crediting the source, and respect the property of others. A student Honor Council, elected yearly, enforces the Honor Code and educates students about the importance of personal integrity at the school. The Dress Code - Students in kindergarten, The School Day - The academic day runs from All teachers are available for thirty minutes following the regular school hours to work with students who need assistance. There are also regular times during the day when students or teachers can schedule additional instructional time. The Study Lab - The school provides a Study Lab that is available to any student who is in need of extra help, beyond that which is normally expected from individual teachers. The Study Lab professionals work closely with the classroom teachers. The goal is to help each student learn in the most effective manner and develop strategies and study skills that foster independence. Extended Care - The school offers an extended day program for the
convenience of working parents. Before school care is available beginning at Transportation - The school offers bus service to selected areas. Parents must request this service at the time of registration. A fee schedule for bus service is provided with enrollment information. Athletics - Heritage fields squads individual and team sports which foster fitness, leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork among students. Students are eligible to participate on interscholastic athletic programs beginning in the 6th grade, and an active intramural program is available for students in grades 4 through 6. Heritage is a member of the GISA (Georgia Independent School Association) Athletic League and has teams for soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, cross-country, track, tennis, cheerleading, and golf. Over 90% of middle and upper school students are members of at least one team, and many participate on several. Heritage is committed to the independent school ideal of providing athletic opportunities for every student who wants to be on a team. Clubs, Services, and Leadership - The Heritage School encourages students to work in areas of community service, and both the Key Club and the Student Government Association provide opportunities to do so. In addition, there are foreign language clubs, science clubs, honor societies and an outdoor adventure club. Students gain leadership skills through these clubs, as well as by serving on the student council or on the yearbook staff. There is a complete list here. Fine Arts - The excellent find arts curriculum that is an integral part of the Heritage experience also provides extra-curricular opportunities. Students interested in fine arts may join the chorus or dance team, participate in ambitious dramatic and musical productions, sing or play an instrument in a music ensemble, or enter artwork in a variety of exhibitions. Fine arts faculty members, who are themselves professional artists and performers, supervise these after-school activities. |
