There are over 350 students at The Heritage School, and enrollment is increasing yearly. However, there is a strong commitment on the part of the Board and Administration to manage this growth carefully, in order not to lose the special qualities inherent in a small school environment. Small classes and individual attention have always been, and will continue to be, at the heart of The Heritage School program.

Within this small school community, it is easy for students to know teachers and other students well, and to develop a strong sense of belonging. Heritage students find it hard, if not impossible, to get lost in the crowd. Because we believe that the confident student will become the successful adult, our program centers on activities designed to build skills and self-assurance. As we teach students to become proficient in academic areas, we also teach them to value their own unique gifts. We believe that the self-confidence they develop in our family-like atmosphere will carry them through the many challenges they will face in life. Friendships and personal identity are enhanced through a broad range of co-curricular offerings and an interscholastic athletic program in which all students are welcome to participate.

Classes are small at Heritage, with the average class size being 15 students. As a result, students receive highly individualized attention from the preschool through high school. We provide an atmosphere conducive to learning in a stimulating yet nurturing environment. Our students have the benefit of accelerated learning without the pressures that often accompany it. Here students may reach their fullest potential, while developing a confidence and love of learning that will endure throughout their lives. A strong student-administered honor code and an emphasis on volunteer service further enhance the school's sense of community.

Whenever possible, family involvement is encouraged. An active Parents' Club supports the school and faculty in many ways, while an equally active Booster Club provides similar support to student athletes and the school's athletic program. Many parents serve as volunteers on school committees or lend a hand with various school projects when needed. Grandparent participation in the school is also welcomed and encouraged. A formal Grandparents' Day in November of each year is only one of many opportunities for grandparents to participate in the life of the school.

Parents are also active partners in our educational process. The channels of communication between parents, teachers and students are always open; formal parent-teacher-student conferences are held twice a year.

Former students are important members of the school community as well, and are always welcome at The Heritage School. In addition to speaking to current students about their own college and career experiences, alumni also volunteer to serve on school committees. Many have selected Heritage for their own children.

Students, teaches, parents, grandparents, alumni... at The Heritage School, all are members of the larger school family, and each plays a special role in the life of the school.

Teachers at The Heritage School are highly qualified in their respective subjects, and their commitment extends well beyond the classroom. Each teacher is involved with extra-curricular activities and is seen as an important role model for students.

The faculty is comprised of well-trained, experienced men and women from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds. All meet or exceed the standards set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for the subjects or grade which they teach. Working as a team, our teachers are able to provide students with continuity and consistency in curriculum and teaching approaches from one grade to the next.
