PRECALCULUS 1A and 1B MRS. Rich
·
Student Supplies: 3”-4” Notebook
with dividers, TI 89 or TI86 Graphing
Calculator. Merrill Advanced Mathematical Concepts Textbook.
·
This is a very demanding course even for
those students who excel in math. There is homework every class period which
will usually take 30 minutes to 90 minutes to complete. Students have a detailed syllabus to follow
which contains all homework assignments, worksheets, quiz dates, and test
dates. It also tells them which sections
we will cover in class. The syllabus is
also on my Web page. Students are expected to read their syllabus and be
prepared for class each day.
·
Homework is checked immediately when class
starts. If a student is late to class a
zero is given for homework. All graded
work done outside of class is also due then the bell rings for class to start.
·
Permitted absences (field trips, family
trips, college visits, athletic events, drama shows, music shows, etc.) are
permitted only if all work is turned in BEFORE the student leaves and all
quizzes and tests are taken in ADVANCE.
·
All quizzes and tests are comprehensive over
all previously taught topics from this year and Algebra I. The majority of the quiz or test will come
from the sections just taught but students are always responsible for previous
material.
·
Since a lot of work is done outside of
class and turned in for a grade this can create a problem. I expect each student to do all the required
work on their own. I do not have a
problem with students checking their answers with a classmate (unless told
differently beforehand) but I will not allow someone to copy any part of
another student’s work.
·
If a student is absent from class, he/she
needs to get the notes from a classmate as not all material is in the
text. Students are responsible for all
work that occurred while they are absent and are expected to have their
assignment completed when they return.
Students at this level should be able to read the text book and complete
their homework on their own. If a
student is absent for a period of time they will need to come in for individual
help until they are caught up.
·
Students cannot allow themselves to get
behind this class. As soon as they are
having trouble they need to come in for individual help. The best time for this is during XL or lunch.
·
Students with an average of 88% or higher
will go to AP Calculus AB. Students with
an average below 88% will retake Precalculus.
