May Newsletter

Here are the highlights for May:

       Reading:  Focus on Reconstruction, Inventors

       Grammar: Cumulative Review

       Mathematics:  Decimals; Geometry

       Social Studies: Reconstruction, Industrial Revolution

Science: Simple Machines

As we continue reading Forty Acres and Maybe a Mule, we will also be reading about Phineas MacGuire. Ask your child about his adventures. We hope your child will continue to enjoy Phineas since that will be their assigned reading book this summer. We will read one of our other classroom novels when we finish with Phineas.

The students have been doing well studying decimals. I plan to try something new this year and do an introduction to Geometry in May.

The students will begin their business interviews this weekend. We all look forward to learning about business leaders in our community. We also have begun studying and building simple machines. We will continue with that throughout the month.

May 11 will be Step Up Day for the 4th graders. They will visit the 5th grade and learn what Middle School has in store for them. Parents will have their own Step Up Day on Thursday, May 13, at 10:45 a.m. in Kari Thornton’s classroom. This will be a time for parents to learn everything they need to know about 5th grade!

The fourth graders are looking forward to assuming their responsibilities as Jubilee captains. They will be working with their teams at the end of this month to coordinate team cheers and to demonstrate examples of good sportsmanship as they practice kick ball.

Don’t forget to come see your students’ works of Art on Sunday, May 16, 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Media Center. This is an exclusive showing of the 4th graders work. You will be pleased and proud seeing the accomplishments of your artists!
