Tax Credit Form Form IT-QEE-TP1

Please Answer Two Simple Questions

Will you owe state taxes to the Georgia Department of Revenue for 2012?

Would you like to support The Heritage School without any money leaving your pocket?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please consider participating in Georgia's Qualified Education Expense Tax Credit program for the 2012 tax year. The way this program works is simple. You make a donation to Georgia GOAL (a state approved Student Scholarship Organization) by check or credit card. This donation serves as a tax prepayment and will be credited to your 2012 taxes. You indicate that you want your donation to support The Heritage School. You will receive a statement to file with your 2012 state tax return. In addition to the state tax credit, your contribution may be utilized as a 501(c)(3) charitable contribution deduction on your federal income tax return.

Taxpayers who are married filing jointly are eligible for a tax credit of up to $2,500; individual filers are eligible for a maximum tax credit of $1,000; and C-Corporations may contribute and apply for a corresponding credit of up to 75% of their corporate state tax liability.

You may wonder how this program came into existence. In 2008, the Georgia General Assembly established Student Scholarship Organizations as a way to offer school choice to qualified need based students who desire to attend a private school. Donors are allowed to make gifts to Student Scholarship Organizations, and these gifts are treated as a dollar for dollar tax credit against the donor's state taxes. Tax credits are available up through December 31 of each tax year, up to a maximum cap of $50 million per year, but to be sure that you get your tax credit paperwork in before the annual cap is reached, I urge you to apply now.

Our rivals, Arlington Christian, Holy Spirit, Landmark, Harvester, Flint River and Woodward all participate in the program and are competing with Heritage to qualify for these funds before the cap is reached. It is imperative that you complete your donor forms and send them in as soon as possible.

Please understand that this should not replace your annual charitable contribution to the school. This is simply a way to designate your already owed Georgia tax dollars to The Heritage School to benefit qualified new students.

Contact Jennifer Thomasson at The Heritage School at 678-423-5827 or jthomasson@heritagehawks.org for questions and/or assistance with the paperwork.

To donate/designate your Georgia tax dollars to The Heritage School, you will need to:

  1. Complete the tax credit form.
  2. Complete pages 1 and 2 of Form IT-QEE-TP1; be sure to sign this form.
  3. If paying by check, make the check payable to: Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, Inc. If paying by credit card, complete the credit card authorization portion of the contribution form.
  4. Mail the contribution form, Form IT-QEE-TP1, and your donation check to:

Follow up instructions:

  1. When you receive the pre-approved document from the Department of Revenue, please file a copy in your 2012 income tax folder, so that you can claim the prepaid taxes on your 2012 Georgia income tax return.
  2. Georgia GOAL will also receive a confirmation of your pre-approval directly from the Department of Revenue on your behalf, which will be their signal to deposit your donation check or run your credit card charge.

Thank you for supporting The Heritage School in our effort to provide tuition scholarships for eligible students through the Qualified Education Expense Credit program.
